I suspect you mean that your game was written for a much older version of windows or even DOS? And now you are now running a newer version like Vista or Windows 7 (presumably the the 64-bit version?) your older game no longer runs.

Before we get into a technical answer - take a look around the internet, many older games have been released into the public domain and are available for free in versions that will run on the web or on modern PCs. Doom is a great example of this kind of game.
If you cannot find a version of game available - then I would suggest using a product like www.virtualbox.org or Parallels or VMWare Fusion to create a 'virtual' PC.
You could then install any older version of Windows or even DOS on that 'virtual' PC and then run your older 16-bit games.

I tried even this and does´t work. But I could find the process and rename it, then quit the app from activity monitor. Thanks Hackett. Are something of Steve :)

Thank you for posting this! God, it was driving me crazy -- it has to be some weird bug that slipped under their radar. The only bummer was that I had a bunch of custom icons that got squashed when I deleted the plist file. Totally worth it, though!

Angela, you are wonderful. I had tried all other suggestions, but restarting in safe mode actually worked. Brilliant! Thanks for solving this totally aggravating problem.
